Celebrating with Purpose
12th October 2025

What an incredible day at Lonehill Nature Reserve! Serendipity or divine timing—call it what you will—brought us a remarkable coincidence that made this day even more special.

On the same day as Ms Ponnie Moodley's 60th birthday celebration, GAWMT’s Alexandra Township coordinator was with us, accompanied by one of our Guardian Angel Wildlife and Marine Trust scouts from Alexandra, Mandla. Mandla was celebrating his 50th birthday on this very day. We wish them both abundant blessings, joy, and continued success in their efforts to protect wildlife and serve communities.

Despite the rain early in the day, the skies parted just in time—sunshine appeared exactly when we needed it, as if a Guardian Angel was watching over us. This perfect alignment reminded us of the power of community, kindness, and divine timing. Ponnie searched extensively for a conservation organization that truly aligns with her vision and aspirations. After thoughtful consideration, she chose the Guardian Angel Wildlife and Marine Trust. We are deeply honored by her decision and gratitude. Instead of celebrating in the usual way, Ponnie used her birthday as a meaningful opportunity to make a real difference. She incorporated conservation efforts, litter picking along her hike, and her friends generously donated gifts to a cause close to her heart.

This beautiful act exemplifies the true spirit of giving—using a birthday not just for celebration, but as a platform to uplift disadvantaged people, support conservation, and inspire a positive ripple effect across our community. By including litter picking and encouraging donations to worthy causes, Ponnie’s actions help motivate others to care for our environment, clean up our spaces, and take pride in where we live.

Her heartfelt approach reminds us that birthdays can be powerful moments to create lasting change—fostering awareness, kindness, and action that can transform our country. Imagine a future where we all adopt this mindset: turning celebrations into opportunities to uplift communities, reduce litter, and make South Africa a cleaner, more beautiful nation.

Ms Ponnie Moodley’s example is truly touching. She chose to make her special day not just about personal joy, but about contributing towards something greater—conservation, community, and a cleaner environment. Congratulations, Ponnie, on turning your birthday into a meaningful act of kindness and change. Your example inspires us all to see celebrations as chances to make a difference.

**Thank you, thank you, thank you** to all the Guardian Angels who made my birthday the best! My vision of the day manifested in every way. The synergy even down to the weather was incredible! I’m sending you what to use as you need. Have a blessed evening, Raymond, and chat again soon

A special thank you to our Guardian Angel Wildlife and Marine Trust scout Tshepo Mahlakola for attending and supporting on this special day. Your dedication and support are truly appreciated.

Let’s continue to uplift each other, protect our wildlife, and keep the spirit of guardian angels alive.

GAWMT & ARMSTA Join Forces for a Cleaner, Greener Kasi

Mr Raymond Kramer, founder of the Guardian Angel Wildlife & Marine Trust (GAWMT), recently met with the Head of Communications Mr Tladi Lepolesa from the ARMSTA Taxi Association to celebrate an exciting new partnership. ARMSTA has officially pledged its support to GAWMT’s mission of promoting environmental preservation, with a special focus on the "Keep Kasi Clean" campaign.

This collaboration marks a significant step in uniting community transport leaders with conservation efforts. GAWMT Treats Alexandra Educators to Helicopter Rides
22nd August 2025

As a gesture of appreciation for their dedication and hard work, the Guardian Angel Wildlife & Marine Trust (GAWMT) organised a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the educators of Alexandra – scenic helicopter rides over Johannesburg. The initiative was aimed at recognising the vital role teachers play in shaping young minds and building stronger communities. For many, it was their first time in a helicopter, and the excitement and joy were unforgettable. This special outing not only offered breathtaking views from above but also created moments of relaxation, gratitude, and inspiration for those who give so much of themselves every day.

Through this gesture, GAWMT hopes to encourage and uplift educators, reminding them that their efforts are seen, valued, and deeply appreciated.

KEEP KASI CLEAN
A Guardian Angel Wildlife and Marine Trust Initiative
18th July 2025

TM

The first #KEEPKASICLEAN event brought together learners, the military, conservationists, government, and the Alexandra community for a powerful day of unity and action. Driven by Mandela’s legacy, it inspired collective responsibility and environmental awareness.

Through interactive exhibitions and hands-on activities, youth became eco-warriors for a day—learning about conservation, career opportunities, and the importance of a clean, green future.

The campaign’s goal: to educate and inspire young South Africans to protect their natural heritage, build cleaner communities, and lead more mindful, productive lives. Because keeping Kasi Clean is more than a slogan—it’s a movement toward lasting change.

FARM VISITS
August 2025

Once thriving game farms, now run-down and forgotten…

On 2 Aug 2025, Raymond Kramer explored these dilapidated yet promising lands with GAWMT

Innovative ideas are already in motion to bring them back to life and turn them into true conservation success stories.

MANDELA DAY - SCHOOL VISIT

Guardian Angel Wildlife & Marine Trust (GAWMT) participated in the Alexandra Minerva Meeting alongside school principals, heads of departments, teachers, and pupil leaders to advance a shared commitment to environmental education and youth development. GAWMT delivered a brief on its conservation education programmes, anti-poaching awareness, and community safety partnerships, highlighting how schools can integrate practical activities—river clean-ups, waste-wise campaigns, and biodiversity monitoring—into the curriculum.

The team introduced the Guardian Scouts initiative, focused on character building, leadership, and responsible citizenship, and invited participating schools to nominate learner ambassadors for 2025 intake. Dialogue sessions identified immediate opportunities for educator training, co-developed lesson resources, and joint events aligned to the school calendar.

In closing, GAWMT reaffirmed its collaborative approach with educators and local stakeholders, including cooperation with relevant law-enforcement and conservation authorities where appropriate, to create safer communities for both people and wildlife. Next steps include a planning workshop with Minerva cluster representatives and pilot projects at selected schools in the upcoming term.
